Mani Rimdu Festivals

Mani Rimdu is the main festival in Everest region in the Himalayas. It’s one of the religious festivals celebrated in mountain region of Nepal. Sherpa people have their own ways to celebrate Mani rimdu festival at Tengboche monastery. Some preparations are made before the dates like dance practice to perform in festival by monk, Making ”Mandala and Tormas”from sand and barley flour which are considered to be symbolic offerings etc.

Mani rimdu festival celebrate for three days on the month of November. The famous mask dance is performed by the monks for a whole day which is a special ceremony towards the end of the festival. Dates are usually based on the Tibetan lunar calendar.

Dumji Festivals
Dumji is another festival in Everest region. It falls on the months of May or June and is celebrated each year in Khumbu. Dumji is a very special festival where the monks practice more serious rituals. Dumji is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Rimpoche.

Gyalpo Lhosar Festivals
Lhosar symbols the new year of the Tibetan lunar calendar. Sherpas in Khumbu inhabitants of the high altitude of Everest region celebrates this festival. The festive mood during this period is usually evident with everyone in new clothes and jewelry. Usually, people exchange gifts and visit monasteries to receive blessings from the monks praying for prosperity and good health throughout the forthcoming year. Rooftops are always decorated with bright prayer flags.
